Green Tea
Remember though… just because Green Tea receives a few positive reviews does not necessarily mean it will work for you. Conversely, a negative product review does not always mean you should dismiss it.
As always, remember that personal testimonials are anecdotal, and are no alternative to properly conducted clinical trials.

Has anyone tried any type of green tea fat burner? How about the Irwin Naturals brand? If so, how has it worked for you? I’ve tried that one and the brand from Costco (I forget the name), and perhaps I’m not very prone to the effects of caffeine, but I’m not sure if it does much other than increase my heart rate. I’m not sure if it actually increases my metabolism, but I would think so since my heart rate is increased. I think the Irwin Naturals brand seems to work a bit better than the Costco one, but I’m not sure. It’s kind of hard to tell. If you have feedback, please share them. Also, does anyone know if girls can use No Xplode? Someone told me about it after I heard mixed reviews about Creatine. Thank you.
Editor’s comments: There’s no reason women cannot take NO-Xplode (see the NO-Xplode review for a complete ingredient breakdown). In fact, Elissa, who writes most of the material in our bodybuilding section, has used it many times herself. We’d also recommend reading our creatine review – creatine monohydrate is one of the safest and most studied sports supplements, and fine for women to take.

Is it a problem to drink coffee when taking green tea tablets? I have started my green tea program but I am very fond of coffee. I am wondering if it is too much caffeine.
Editor’s comments: Latefa, green tea contains significantly less caffeine than coffee, and your green tablets may contain even less. So you are probably OK to have a coffee (or even two) at some point during the day. Optimally though, you do not want to exceed 600 mg of caffeine in a day. If you start getting the jitters, you will know to scale back your coffee consumption.

I’ve got a bad thyroid and the joined at the hip bad cholesterol numbers to go with it. But I’ve been a gym rat for most my life so the cholesterol was always kept in check. However the last few years I’ve been running a desk and I dropped out of the gym, so the #’s went up along with a flip flop of my weight/body fat ratio. So back in the gym for the last 8 months during which my body weight has stayed a constant to a slight increase as I burn some fat and add some muscle.
Doc still puts me on crestor to drop my cholesterol, works well but after 2 months I’ve hit the gamut of side effects that makes life miserable, it’s hard to stay in the gym when you can’t breathe and your midsection feels like you’ve been in a fight, and lost. So I pulled myself off the statin and a couple weeks later pick up some supplements that are supposed to help with cholesterol according to google. One of the ‘biggies I guess is green tea extract, the pills they sell in the green bottle at walmart.
Gym routine is the same, no conscious change to my diet. I hop on the scale for the first time in a month after taking about a bottle of the GTE, about a months worth, and my weight has dropped 6-7 pounds. My gym routines and strength gains are consistent to my life long experience (thank God I’m a mesomorph
) so no muscle loss, has to be body fat. I’m more than surprised so I hop off and make sure the scale is calibrated and sure ’nuff it’s good.
Back to google to actually research and find that GTE is supposed to be good for weight loss and appetite control. After that I sit and think a bit, realize my diet has actually changed in the last month. Mainly I don’t eat as much or as often, looks to be a sneaky appetite suppressant as well. I’m on my 2nd bottle, so about month 2 and so far 0 side effects.
I don’t expect, or have the fat reserves, to drop 10lbs a week or anything mind blowing. But I have to say that these results were a very nice and unexpected surprise. For $5/month and the benefits I’m getting from it I plan on using it for a long time.
